Mexico!

On Saturday, a group of nine of us from my floor in Young Hall traveled to Mexico to spend the day at Miracle Ranch Children's Home in Valle Las Palmas. We spent the day learning about Miracle Ranch and what they do and then we played with the kids outside for the rest of the time. Right before we left we ate lunch with them. Mmm. To my surprise, we had spaghetti! Lechuga (lettuce) y homemade tortillas! So here are the photos from our trip...the first is from the border as you're entering Mexico. I thought it was pretty cool. Photo #2 is with Miguel, one of the boys who we played with. The next photo is of two more of the kids I met, Anna and Francisco. Photo #4 has a neat story to it. The girl pictured is the daughter of the cook they have on site. In the recent floods in nearby Chiapas, Mexico, she and her daughter were left homeless and the director of Miracle Ranch, through the contacts he had was able to get her to come and work as the cook. The mother was busy in the kitchen cooking lunch, so she came out and asked for us to take her for a while. Funny thing is, the girl kept the same expression on her face the entire time we were there. We spent quite a while trying to get her to smile or laugh, atleast change her face, but no success :-( The next photo is with Joe, who's on my floor and two kids as they are looking into the kitchen as the tortillas are being made for lunch. And the last photo was taken as we were waiting in line to get back over the border to make our way back to San Diego. It was good to finally get back to Mexico, I enjoyed it a lot! I've posted a new link connecting you to the website for Miracle Ranch. Look for it under my links on the right. I'm excited about returning again pretty soon...
